What PC_DIMMER is
PC_DIMMER is a free, open-source lighting control program for Windows. It was written by Christian Nöding (PHOENIXstudios Remsfeld); the source code is public on GitHub.
According to the manufacturer, PC_DIMMER drives up to 16 DMX universes, that is 8192 channels. The interface aims for a balance between an ordinary Windows program and specialised lighting software, so that beginners and professionals alike get along with it. Via Art-Net, PC_DIMMER connects to other programs and devices in both directions; extensions come as plugins.
What you need for it
A Windows computer, a DMX interface and a device description for every type of fixture — PC_DIMMER calls it a DDF. That is because you control the device through a graphical interface rather than the single DMX channel. If a DDF is missing, the program’s device editor builds one from channels, colours and gobos.
Together with our interfaces
The manufacturer’s interface list has a driver of its own for “JMS USB2DMX”: for the interfaces from JMS, identical in design to the Enttec OpenDMX, 512 output channels, status “stable”.
The AIR2DMX PRO receives Art-Net over Wi-Fi. According to the same list, PC_DIMMER’s Art-Net driver sends and receives 512 to 8192 channels, also rated “stable”.
